Chicago DUI Attorney

I am Chicago DUI lawyer Jonathan Feldman. I devote my practice to defending individuals across the Chicagoland area against a broad range of criminal charges. Much of my work involves defense against drunk driving and other traffic-related offenses, including:

  • First-offense DUI: If you are convicted of first-offense DUI in Illinois, you face the suspension of your driver's license, fines and even the possibility of jail. If you are under 21, are found to have had a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .16 or greater, have a passenger in the car who is under the age of 16 or are driving with a suspended or revoked license while under the influence, you face the potential of enhanced penalties.
  • Repeat DUI charges: The penalties for a second or additional DUI offense are substantially more serious than for a first offense. For a second offense, you can lose your driver's license for five years. A third offense will be charged as a Class 4 felony. My law firm will examine the evidence and present a strong defense against these charges.
  • Vehicular homicide: Under Illinois law, causing death to someone while operating a motor vehicle is called reckless homicide. Reckless homicide is a felony. In addition, causing bodily injury while intoxicated is also a felony charge. If you or someone you love faces these types of charges, you need a lawyer who will challenge the evidence and put forth an aggressive defense.

Further, as a DWI defense attorney, I understand all of the short- and long-term consequences of a DUI. For many people, the most immediate consequences of these charges are significant fines and driver's license suspension or revocation. Under Illinois law, if you have been arrested on suspicion of DUI, the state will suspend your driving privileges. You have the right to a hearing before the state suspends your license, although you must request this hearing within 10 days of your arrest. I defend clients in suspension or revocation hearings, and I know how to make a compelling defense of your position. If you have been convicted of DUI, you may need to complete several tasks before you are eligible to reinstate your driving privileges. My law firm represents people in reinstatement hearings and can help you understand what you need to do to regain your driving privileges.

From the beginning, I will focus on what I can do to effectively defend you. There are many potential defenses to DUI. For example, the police may not have had a reasonable suspicion to stop your vehicle or perhaps the results of the police investigation are flawed in some way. There are any number of potential weaknesses in every case. I have the experience and skill to find these weaknesses and achieve a favorable result.
